Welcome Fifth Graders!!

Dear Fifth Graders and families J,

I want to welcome you to an exciting year at Fort Myers Christian School!  It has been a privilege to teach at FMCS for the past 11 years.  All three of my children were blessed to attend here and have gone on to High School and college well prepared for the challenges they have faced.

In Fifth grade, you will be equipped to grow more independent and spiritually strong.  You will be challenged academically; you will be encouraged along the way!  The Fifth Grade curriculum is fun and exciting.  We will study US History, Earth Science and read several Novels that will hopefully get us thirsty for more!  We continue with Accelerated Math and will have Math homework each week to help us review the skills learned.  We will enjoy the rewards from Accelerated Reading and write book reports EACH month.  In Bible, we learn to journal and have a quiet time with God.  We will be looking at character traits and see how Scripture is relevant and needed for our lives today.

Students will keep their own assignment books.  They will write their spelling words (which can also be found on info-direct). They will copy their homework from the board each day. An assignment book must be purchased from the school store.

Fifth graders are expected to show more leadership.  They have the opportunity to volunteer for Patrols.  This is a privilege and a job taken very seriously.  We also meet with our Reading buddies once a month.  It is great to see relationships forming between the students and their little friends!
If you want to hear about the daily events, read our daily blog written by our class.  Each day during the first semester,  a different student will write a summary of our day for a Language grade.

In Fifth grade, we discuss current events, practice our writing skills and work on fun and creative projects that help bring more meaning to our units of study.

Please join us for our Open House this Thursday night August, 23rd .  If you have any questions or concerns, my email address is rcouch@fmcs-fl.com.
I look forward to getting to know your family and working with you this year!

Blessings,

Robin Couch
